Behavioral Management

The goal of the Behavioral Management Program at Connecticut Center for Continence is to enhance a patient's quality of life. In order to make their day to day activities more manageable, patients are educated in the following areas:

The goals of CCC's Behavioral Management Program are to: Biofeedback and Electrical Stimulation

CCC utilizes biofeedback to control stress and urge incontinence. By providing visual and auditory feedback, a patient can be taught to exert voluntary control over physiologic bodily functions.

Electrical stimulation is used in conjunction with biofeedback to stimulate the pelvic muscles as well as the nerve fibers that stimulate those muscles. These tests educate specific muscle groups, namely those of the pelvis. The goal is to strengthen the pelvic muscle group so as to minimize the loss of involuntary urinary leakage.
